Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice President

Dr. Arthur C. Evans, Jr., leads the American Psychological Association as CEO and Executive Vice President. With a clinical and public psychiatry background, he transformed Philadelphia’s $1.5B Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual Disability Services prior to joining APA in 2017. Under his leadership, APA has advanced bold work in equity, justice, science-based practice, and systemic change—championing psychological science as central to improving well-being for individuals, organizations, and society.


Maysa Akbar, PhD, ABPP

Chief Diversity Officer and Chief of Psychology in the Public 

Dr. Maysa Akbar is APA’s Chief Diversity Officer and Chief of Psychology in the Public Interest. She is also the founder and CEO of Integrated Wellness Group, a psychotherapy practice specializing in race-based trauma. Dr. Akbar represents the American Psychological Association at the United Nations, bringing psychology into the global conversation on equity, mental health, and social justice.


Katherine B. McGuire

Chief Advocacy Officer

Katherine B. McGuire serves as Chief Advocacy Officer for the American Psychological Association, leading APA’s government relations and external advocacy efforts. With deep experience in policy, law, and leadership, she drives initiatives to embed psychological science into public policy and empowers APA’s voice on equity, mental health, and societal well-being.


Vaile Wright, PhD

Senior Director, Healthcare Innovation

Dr. Vaile Wright is a licensed psychologist and researcher focusing on developing strategies to leverage technology and data to address issues within health care including increasing access, measuring care, and optimizing treatment delivery at both the individual and system levels. Wright has maintained an active line of research with peer-reviewed articles in journals including Professional Psychology: Research and Practice, Law and Human Behavior, and the Journal of Traumatic Stress


Jaime “Jim” L. Diaz-Granados, PhD

Deputy Chief Executive Officer 

Dr. Jim Diaz-Granados is the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the American Psychological Association, where he works alongside the CEO to develop and implement the association’s strategy, policies, and goals, while overseeing major programmatic areas. An accomplished researcher in the developmental, behavioral, and neurochemical aspects of alcohol abuse and addiction, he previously served as a professor and chair of psychology and neuroscience at Baylor University before joining APA’s Education Directorate.
